With HOLY the duo Panter&Tourron investigates the relationship between objects and the symbolic meaning we attribute to them, connecting two systems of values that are apparently distant from each other: the symbols of spirituality throughout the history of religions and the new cult of technology.
Imagining a scenario where today's technologies will exist only as relics from a future past, Panter&Tourron have designed a series of objects that carry the intrinsic visual characteristics of contemporary consumer electronics. Like technological objects stripped from their original purpose, empty vessels open to interpretations, Panter&Tourron have reimagined these new forms as a series of symbolic religious objects.
In this project technology is used and understood as shared and universally adopted set of rules, to unify recurrent rites and religious symbolism that commonly illustrates the journey of an individual towards ones spiritual path.
Each object in the series represents one passage of various spiritual phases: the act of joining in (becoming a believer), the purification ritual, the offerings to the gods and finally the communication with them until the farewell to the afterlife.
HOLY has been presented in collaboration with NOV Gallery, during Milan Design Week 2018 at Spazio Rossana Orlandi.
