Holy
2018
Holy investigates the relationship between objects and the symbolic meanings we attribute to them, connecting two systems of value that appear distant from one another: the spiritual symbols found throughout the history of religions and the contemporary cult of technology.
In this project, technology is understood as a shared and universally adopted language, used to reinterpret recurring rites and religious symbolism. Each object represents a passage within a spiritual journey: the act of joining in, the ritual of purification, the offering to the gods, communication with the divine, and finally the farewell to the afterlife.
Imagining a scenario in which today’s technologies exist only as relics from a future past, the project presents a series of objects carrying the visual codes of contemporary consumer electronics. Stripped of their original function, these technological forms become empty vessels, open to interpretation and reimagined as symbolic religious artefacts.
Holy was presented during the 2018 Milan Design Week, as part of the exhibition "Future Artefact" from Geneva-based NOV Gallery at the renowned Spazio Rossana Orlandi.
