Mutthorn Chair
2026
Originally designed for the new Mutthorn Hut in the Bernese Alps, the Mutthorn Chair by Panter&Tourron for Horgenglarus reinterprets the tradition of Swiss Alpine furniture through a contemporary approach to craftsmanship and manufacturing. Conceived for the mountain hut designed by ARC1706, the project combines simplicity, durability, and comfort in an essential form suited to everyday use.
Rather than drawing from the traditional Swiss “Stabelle” chair, the design takes inspiration from another familiar element of Alpine interiors: the classic bentwood bistro chair. For generations, these simple and robust objects, including many models by Horgenglarus, have furnished chalets, restaurants, and mountain huts, often remaining in use for decades.
The chair brings together characteristic elements of Horgenglarus’ design language in a contemporary construction. A generous round seat recalls models from the early 20th century, while solid legs with a square cross-section reference the manufacturer’s heritage. The rear legs flow into a steam-bent backrest, creating a continuous structure and a distinctive silhouette. Its generous proportions are balanced by a compact footprint, making it equally suited to residential and contract environments.
Constructed with a moulded plywood seat and a solid bentwood frame, the chair is available in oak, ash, and beech, as well as satin black and a new colour palette developed by Panter&Tourron.
