Scented Candle
2022
The refillable scented candle for Balenciaga was conceived as a functional and sculptural object within the French fashion house’s collection of objects.
The candle features a mirror-polished holder in cast and milled aluminium, finished with a reflective palladium galvanic treatment. Its rounded silhouette references everyday jars and containers, translating a familiar archetype into a precise and highly refined object. When the candle is not in use, a screw-cap lid fits smoothly over the holder, turning it into a standalone sculptural piece.
The scented wax was developed specifically for the maison by artist and scientist Sissel Tolaas, using real olfactory recordings extracted from Cristóbal Balenciaga’s belongings and archive. Through scent, material, and form, the object connects historical memory with a contemporary language of ritual and domestic presence.
Available in both travel and home sizes, the candle was introduced on the occasion of Balenciaga’s 51st Couture Collection show. It marks the first in a series of objects designed by Panter&Tourron in collaboration with the fashion house.
